Inaugural Debutante/Cotillion held

In a heady swirl of bright white tulle, pearls, and chiffon, six young ladies made their debut in the inaugural Debutante/Cotillion hosted by the Hazlehurst Hailed Sister at Lumber City Highway Events May 4. It was indeed an “Evening of Elegance and Grace.”
The venue was transformed into an enchanted magical ballroom boasting lush greenery and a majestic ambiance. Each ladies’ name and achievement were announced as they graced the stage with a curtsy. Along with their junior escorts, they began a series of choreographed dances. As the group took to the dance floor, they became part of a defining moment in Hazlehurst history and beyond.
The debutantes presented were Emily Nikiya Baker, daughter of Kimmyer and Robert Baker; Ja’ Lania Shardai Moore, daughter of Kistry Moore and James Fletcher; Jaynee Aleeah Mosley, daughter of Sherree Hall and Reginald Mosley; Beautiful Thomas, daughter of Tameka Brown; A’Sheerah Jamillah Wright, daughter of Shannon Knox and Blake Wright; and Wynter Alexis Wright, daughter of Jasmine and Anthony Wright.
Ja’ Lania Moore was crowned “Miss Debutante” and honored with “Miss Congeniality” award. Ja ’Lania is a graduating senior at Jeff Davis High School and will attend Savannah State University in the fall. Jaynee Mosley received the “Miss Junior Debutante” recognition and A’ Sheerah Wright was awarded for Highest academic achievement award.
During the past several months the debutantes have participated in various cultural and educational activities. The workshops centered around the themes of social responsibility, personal development, camaraderie, and exposure. The goal was to help young ladies take pride in who they are, build self-esteem, and make positive and informed choices in their lives.
