Soccer boys defeat Appling in overtime

Jeff Davis High School’s boys soccer team defeated Appling County 5-4 in overtime Friday in the second round of the Georgia High School Association Class AA State Payoffs.
The win propelled the Jackets into the Elite 8, facing Providence Christian Academy of Lilburn yesterday (Tuesday) for an opportunity to advance to the Final Four.
In the Appling County match, Gael Valora had two goals and two assists, Tony Toledo and Konner “Fish” Munsayac each had a goal, and Fabian Valdelamar scored the winning goal in the second half of the overtime period with 1:33 left to play.
Colby Yarbrough and Josue Avila both had assists and goalee Jose Lopez had eight blocks.
The regulation game ended with the score tied at 4-4 and the teams then played two 10-minute halves in overtime.
Providence Christian has a 7-11 record, finished 3rd in Region 8-AA and defeated Callaway 9-0 and The Walker School 3-3 with a 4-1 advantage in overtime kicks.
The Yellow Jackets are 13-6-1, Region 1-AA champions, and defeated Butler 10-0 and Appling to get to the Elite 8.
