Jeff Davis High School’s boys soccer team defeated Sumter County last week 6-1 to win the Region 1-AA championship. It was the first region boys soccer championship in Jeff Davis High School history.

For the first 20 minutes of the Jackets’ match with Sumter, Jeff Davis would have more chances created, however they could not find a goal.
A few minutes later, Gael Valora got the ball and danced his way into the box and scored an easy goal that allowed for Jeff Davis to come alive. After that, Konnor Munsayac dribbled down the line and sent a low cross inside the box that found Gael, who tapped it in and put Jeff Davis up 2-0.
Jeff Davis, not letting the foot off the gas, scored another as Josue Avila sent a through ball to Gael and scored again to put Jeff Davis leading 3-0, and Gael completied his hat trick. With a few minutes left in the first half, Fabian Valdelamar sent a ball down the middle to Tony Toledo and scored, which put them 4-0 at the half.
In the second half, Sumter fought back scoring one in the opening minutes, however, it was not enough to break Jeff Davis up as a loose ball inside the box and a bad clearance from a Sumter defender caused him to score an own goal and put Jeff Davis up 5-1. In the last few minutes of the match, Gael played a ball back to JoseLuis Mendoza and fired it from outside the box to put them up 6-1.
Jeff Davis is 11-3-1 overall, 10-0 in the region, and ranked #6 in the state. The next match is April 8 against Appling County at home
