Mr. Roscoe Dallas Burke Jr., 83

Mr. Roscoe Dallas Burke Jr. was born Oct. 19, 1940, in Homerville. He found his home and resting place in Hazlehurst. Roscoe departed this life March 29.
Roscoe attended high school in Homerville. Later going on to receive his pastoral degree from Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta. Rev. Burke pastored many churches over the years and was an active member of Saint James A.M.E. Church of Hazlehurst. He was married to Catherine Burke in 1997. He continued to live his life passionately, preaching and teaching the word of God. Fishing, spending time with family and friends and cooking for the masses were some of his favorite activities. Roscoe was an esteemed Grand Marshall of Homerville Masonic Lodge #224. He spent 27+ years building his career at Beasley Timber where he proudly drove his big rig timber truck.
He is preceded in death by his parents Roscoe and Mary Burke Sr., sister Bertha L. Williams, brother Robert Lee Burke, sister Diana Rivers, daughter Donna Russell, granddaughter LaDonna Kirby, Joe Burke Jr.
Survivors include his wife Catherine Burke; siblings Missionary Margaret King, Lillie Mae Mincey, children, Herbert Burke (Deborah), Allen Burke, Joe Burke, Wanda Burke, Kathy Bradford (Arvine), Lashaye Walker, Ladon Streeter (Kathy), Sister in law Gloria Jones (Darlene), Elizabeth Garnes, Martha Hall, Sarah Garnes, brother in law William (Annie) Garnes, Randy (Barbara) Garnes, Jerry Garnes and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Homegoing services were held April 6 at St. James A.M.E. Church in Hazlehurst. Pastor Martin Williams was the Presiding Pastor and the Rev. Mammie Woodbury delivered the eulogy.
