Mason leads pitching staff
Senior Alex Mason has emerged as the leading pitcher for the Jeff Davis High Yellow Jackets 20 games into the season with a 3-2 record and a 1.235 earned run average.
Colby Beach is also 3-2 with a 2.54 ERA and Carter Mullis is 3-1 with a 2.677 ERA.
Andrew White has not had a decision as most of his appearances on the mound have been in relief. He has a 2.754 ERA and has earned one save.
Jackson Sayer has the second lowest ERA at 1.448 and he has a 2-0 record in 9 2/3 innings.
Mason, a 2023 All-State player, has thrown the most innings (28.1), followed by Beach (22), Mullis (21) and White (20.1).
Mason is the strikeout leader with 54, White has 34, Beach 30 and Mullis 27.
Mason has shown excellent ball control all season as he has walked only six batters and hit only one in facing a team-leading 110 batters.
Duke Stone, who was an All-State pitcher for the Jackets last season, underwent Tommy John Surgery over the summer and has been unable to pitch this season. But Coach Paul Glass is in hopes his ace will be cleared to pitch when the GHSA playoffs begin.
