JDMS gold wins three

Jeff Davis Middle School’s Gold Team closed out the season with a trio of wins after a pair of losses early last week.
The team lost to Coffee 11-7 last Monday, dropped an 17-6 game to Appling County Tuesday, avenged that loss Friday with a 12-7 win, then swept a double header against Thomas County 3-2 and 7-5.
Kolten Powell went 3-for-3 at the plate against Coffee with a single, two doubles and 3 RBI. Justin Torres doubled, Bentley McLendon had a single and an RBI, Brett Taylor, Jamison Rowland, Colt. Carter, and Rylan Baxley each had singles, and Weston Joyce and Camp Vann each had an RBI.
Grason Tomberlin pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up 9 runs on 9 hits, walking 3, hitting 2 and fanning 9. Torres threw 1/3 inning, giving up an unearned run on no hits, a walk and no strikeouts. Taylor pitched 1/3 inning, giving up no runs, walking none and striking out one.
In the loss to Appling, Kallan Medders had a single, a homerun and 3 RBI, Joyce had 2 singles and an RBI, Torres had a pair of singles, Karson Morris doubled and drove in a run, Vann, Powell and Rowland each singled and Taylor drove in a run.
McLendon pitched 2 innings, giving up 6 runs on 6 hits, 4 walks, and 3 strikeouts, Carter pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 2, Taylor pitched 2/3 inning, giving up 5 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and no strikeouts, and Torres pitched 2/3 inning, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
The Gold exacted revenge on Appling in Baxley with a 12-7 win.
Morris was 4-for-4 with a single, 2 doubles, a homerun and 3 RBI. Torres had a single, a double and an RBI, Rowland had a pair of singles, Jace Crosby had a double and 2 RBI, Tomberlin and Medders both had a double and an RBI, Carter had a single and an RBI, and Powell and Austin Kidd both had singles.
Rowland threw 1 inning, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1. McLendon pitched 2 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts, and Crosby pitched 3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1.
The doubled header Saturday was a pair of 5-inning games.
In the 3-2 win in the opener, the Gold Team had only 3 hits, singles by Carter, Morris and Medders. Carter and Medders both drove in a run.
Carter went the distance on the mound, giving up a pair of unearned runs in the first inning, then blanking Thomas County the rest of the way. He gave up 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 6.
In the 7-5 win over Thomas County, Carter had a single, a double and an RBI, Tomberlin doubled and drove in 2 runs, Morris had a triple and an RBI, and Torres and Brantlee Stapleton both singled.
Powell pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up 4 unearned runs on 1 hit, walking 2, hitting 1 and fanning 5. Joyce pitched 2 innings, giving ip an unearned run on no hits, walking 2 and striking out 3. Tomberlin pitched 1 inning, giving up no runs on 1 hit, walking 1 and striking out none.
