Jacket streak runs to 6

Jeff Davis High’s baseball team has turned a 7-game losing streak into a 6-game win streak as they swept a hapless Sumter County team 15-0, 24-0 and 17-0 last week.
The 15-0 win came Tuesday in Hazlehurst and the other two games, scheduled to be played Friday in Americus, were moved to Hazlehurst Thursday as the Panther coaches could not get officials and the game was moved up to avoid a storm front moving into Georgia Friday.
The opener lasted only four innings and both of Thursday’s games went only three innings due to the run rule.
Coach Paul Glass used all his players in all three games. No one batter stood out as the Jackets’ 40 hits over three games were spread out pretty evenly through the lineups.
Jude Worthington had a single, a homer and four RBI in the opening game, Brayden Lolley had a trio of singles and two RBI in the second game, while Mason had a double and a triple, and Jackson Sayer added two singles, a double and two RBI, and Sayer had a single, a homer and three RBI in the finale.
Glass used only one pitcher in all three games, giving his front-line hurlers a few days of rest. Treyton Webster threw a 1-hitter in the opener, Eli Saunders had a 1-hitter in the second game and Sayer pitched a no-hitter in the third contest. Regular starters Alex Mason, Carter Mullis and Colby Beach, along with top reliever Andrew Hulett, rested their arms for this week’s key matchup against Dodge County.
The Jackets got 15 runs on nine hits in the first game, 24 runs on 17 hits in the second, and 17 runs on 14 hits in the last game.
Extra base hits were plentiful in the series. Ethan Picanso had a double, Duke Stone had a double and a triple, Trey Rea doubled, Worthington homered and doubled, Mason doubled twice and tripled, Beach had a double, Treyton Webster tripled, Mullis tripled, and Sayer doubled and homered.
