Jacket pitching continues to shine

The Jeff Davis High pitching staff gave up only five earned runs in last week’s 3-game series with Worth County.
Carter Mullis, Colby Beach and Andrew White all lowered their season earned run averages (ERA) as Mullis yielded only one run in 4 1/3 innings on the mound, Beach threw five innings without yielding an earned run, and White threw 4 2/3 innings in relief without giving up an earned run.
Alex Mason gave up three runs in his appearance, raising his ERA to 1.615. Beach’s ERA is 2.074, White’s is 2.240 and Mullis’ is 2.487.
Mullis now has a 4-1 record and Mason and Beach have 4-2 records.
Mason has 60 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings, White has 43 Ks in 25 innings, Beach has 36 in 27 innings, and Mullis has 30 in 25 1/3 innings.
Pitching control has been Mason’s strength as he has walked only seven batters and hit only one. In comparison, Beach has yielded 16 walks, White 14 and Mullis 13.
At the plate, Jude Worthington has raised his average to .429 in 34 plate appearances and Beach has a .412 average in 22 plate appearances.
Among the players with 70 or more plate appearances, Treyton Webster is batting .379, Mullis .377, Mason .355, Duke Stone .348, Ethan Picanso .329, Hayden Turner .313 and Jackson Sayer .306.
The team batting average is .335.
