Boys, Girls Tennis Teams Win Region Titles

Jeff Davis High’s girls and boys tennis teams both won Region 1-AA championships last week playing at McKey Park in Valdosta.
For the Lady Jackets, it was the 9th consecutive region championship. They defeated Worth County 3-0 in the morning and then downed rival Berrien Lady Rebels 4-1 for the championship title.
Seeding for the 2024 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) girls state tennis tournament is No. 1 Jeff Davis, No. 2 Berrien, No. 3 Cook and No. 4 Worth County.
The Yellow Jackets boys defeated Cook in the morning match and then downed Worth County for the region championship title.
Region 1-AA seeding for the GHSA boys state championship is No. 1 Jeff Davis, No. 2 Worth County, No. 3 Cook and No. 4 Berrien.
Boys Region 1 AA results:
On April 13-14, Jeff Davis Tennis Boosters hosted the 10th Annual Elliott Carter Memorial Tennis Tournament. Over 55 competitors from throughout the state came to play in memory of Coach Carter who passed away in 2014. Elliott had been a community coach in Jeff Davis for many years and played for Jeff Davis in his high school years. Coach Carter was and still is responsible for decades of success of tennis in Jeff Davis County, and he is still missed by so many.
The junior girls singles champion was Charlotte Williams. The junior boys singles champion was Kenny Newton. The women’s singles champion was Cori Mims. The men’s singles champion was Stephen Mikell. The junior doubles champions were Chase Hulett and Chase Hughes. The women’s doubles champions were Lexi Girtman and Mary Katherine Brown. The men’s doubles champions were Tom Leui and Jon Martin. The mixed doubles champions were Cam Lewis and Katie Standford.
