Girls tennis team is on a roll

JDH varsity girls and boys tennis teams headed to Ware County Feb. 22.
The girls swept the Gators with a 5-0 score. The Yellow Jacket ladies only lost a total of 3 games out of the total 63 played between all 5 positions. JDH guys lost a tough one 1-4 with a total of 3, third set tiebreakers to determine the outcome of the match. All tiebreakers went in the Gators favor and sealed the loss for the Yellow Jackets. First doubles Cain Johnson and Caidon Diaz pulled the only win of the day, only losing 2 total games in 2 sets of 6 to the Gators first doubles team.
The Yellow Jacket Netters had a busy weekend in Valdosta at the Wildcat Invitational Tournament. The boys kicked off the tournament playing Berrien at Valdosta High. The Yellow Jackets pulled a 5-0 win against Berrien in the first match. The guys then faced Valdosta High. JD’s boys pulled out a close one for a 3-2 victory. Next, JDH boys faced Pierce losing another 2-3 heartbreaker to the Bears. Valdosta and JDH guys then faced off once more with the Jackets losing a tough one 2-3 to the Wildcats.
JDH coaches bragged on the play of freshmen Daniel Mims at his third singles spot. Daniel has come in as a freshman and played terribly well in some really tough matches. He is able to play consistent tennis even when his opponents are upper-classmen and more experienced. He has put in a lot of work this season and in the past to be able to compete against these better teams.
JD’s coaches also bragged about senior Amarri Jackson at his second doubles position. He just brings this spirit and excitement to the team that can’t be replaced. Amarri on and off the court has the potential to sway a match for JD. He is athletic and always is up for a hustle.
The girls kicked off the tournament versus Bainbridge at McKey Park. The Lady Yellow Jackets pulled out a 5-0 sweep against Bainbridge. Next, the ladies faced off against Berrien with another sweep for victory (5-0). The Lady Jackets played Valdosta High for their next match up with a 4-1 victory. Last up, the girls faced region rival Berrien once more with a 3-0 victory to win the tournament.
JD’s coaches bragged about the play of second doubles duo Presley Cox and Ava Coleman. Ava is a sophomore and Presley is a junior. Both girls have really improved over the off-season to be able to come in and compete and win at a higher level in these matches against not only tough region opponents but 4A-7A schools.
