Mrs. Winifred Snipes Houston, 94

Mrs. Winifred Snipes Houston, 94, of Lumber City passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence Dec. 25. Mrs. Winifred was born in Ellaville to Mr. Alvin P. Snipes and Jennie Tondee Snipes.
She was a member of Lumber City United Methodist Church. She had been an active member of the Methodist Women and Lumber City Women’s Club for many years. Mrs. Houston received her teaching degree from the Women’s College of Milledgeville and taught at Waverly Hall for one year. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and baking. Everyone loved her pound cakes and pecan pies. Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward L. Houston Sr. and sister, Mrs. Eugenia Yawn.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Houston (Tim), of Talking Rock, Cathy Purser (Steve) of Cochran, Allen Houston (Gisele) of Lumber City, and Edward Houston Jr. (Julie) of Lumber City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Dec. 29 at Lumber City United Methodist Church. The burial ceremony was private. the Rev. Andy Brownley and the Rev. Glen Hancock officiated.
Active pallbearers were Stephen Purser, Greg Purser, Zach Weber, Zach Houston, Edward Houston III, and Bryson Hancocks.
Music was rendered by Margaret Nell Hulett, Lucy Kay Strickland and Larry Smith.
Wainright-Parlor Funeral Home was in charge.
