Mr. Joe Cecil Jones, 97

Mr. Joe Cecil Jones, 97, of Hazlehurst, passed away Dec. 11. Born March 2, 1926, in Douglas, Joe was a beloved father, grandfather, and self contractor who made a significant impact on his community.
Mr. Jones was known for his exceptional skills as a contractor, having played a crucial role in building about half of the city of Hazlehurst. He not only contributed to the physical development of the city but also mentored and guided others in acquiring the knowledge and skills to build their own futures. Joe’s name was synonymous with trust and integrity, earning him a reputation as a man of honor.
Despite being well-known throughout his community, Joe preferred a more solitary lifestyle and cherished his own company. However, he also enjoyed the companionship of his close friends, who shared his passion for construction and craftsmanship.
Joe is survived by his children Lela, Mary, and Joey (Jones). He was preceded in death by his mother, Lela, his father, Joe, and his siblings Estella, Essie Mae, Jessie, Charlie, and Rachel.
Joe found solace and community at the Seventh Day Adventist place of worship, where he could express his faith and connect with others who shared his beliefs.
A funeral to honor Joe’s life will be held at Kings Brothers Funeral Home Dec. 14. Viewing 4-6 p.m. and Dec. 15, viewing 1-2 p.m., burial service 2 p.m. Following the service, Joe will be laid to rest at Jones Barton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests charitable donations to be made to Jones Barton Cemetery in memory of Joe Cecil Jones.
