Lady Jackets Fall To Treutlen

Jeff Davis High’s girls basketball team got off to a strong start against Treutlen County Saturday night in Soperton, but the Lady Vikings rebounded and claimed a 53-41 win over the Lady Jackets.
The flu bug hit the team hard as three players missed the contest along with head coach KatyBeth Rentz.
Latrice Shivers came out with a hot hand in the opening quarter, hitting a pair of 3-pt. shots enroute to an 11-point 1st quarter as Jeff Davis took a 17-11 lead at the first break. Alexa Vann and Brylee Wyatt also hit 3-pt. shots in the opening quarter.
But the Lady Jackets managed only five points in the second quarter and trailed 28-22 at intermission.
Treutlen continued to pull away in the second half.
For the game, JD hit a season high seven shots from beyond the arc as Shivers had three, Vann two and Wyatt two.
Shivers finished with 19 points and Wyatt joined her in double figures with 11. Vann had nine and Kam Robinson two.
Treutlen was led by ShaCaria Jackson with 18 and Valeria Miller with 15.
The Lady Jackets fell to 1-8 while the Lady Vikings improved to 6-2.
In the boys contest, it was the Vikings who came out with a hot hand, jumping out to a 13-2 lead and holding a big lead at intermission.
Treutlen used its impressive quickness to thwart the Jackets’ attempt at a comeback.
