Walker, Brewer win Legislative Showdown
Senator Larry Walker and Jeff Davis County 4-H’er Levi Brewer, brought home the win in the Annual Georgia National Fair Legislative Showdown.
It has become tradition of GA National Fair to hold a swine showmanship showdown between the House and Senate as part of the Market Hog show in Perry. The winner of this elite event earns a trophy to display at the Capitol for the next year and bragging rights.
In an effort to defend their title, the Senate went head-to-head with the House Saturday, at the fair. 4-H’ers and FFA members are selected statewide and paired with a legislator for the event. Youth in this program enjoyed lunch and a meet-and-greet with their designated legislator. They worked one-on-one with their legislator to bring awareness of the importance of livestock, agriculture and 4-H & FFA while also teaching them the needed skills to show a hog in a showmanship class.
Levi Brewer, a 9th grade 4-H’er of Jeff Davis County, was one of five 4-H youth selected to participate in the event. Levi was paired with Senator Larry Walker of Senate District 20. Levi is the son of Chad and Camey Brewer of Hazlehurst.
In a very competitive show, Senator Walker and Levi proudly exhibited on the green carpet in Perry and brought home 1st place. In addition, points were attained per exhibitor and totaled to determine which group brought home the trophy. In a tight event, the Senate proudly won the trophy and bragging rights as The Legislative Showdown Winners. Commissioner of Agriculture, Tyler Harper, GA 4-H and GA FFA collaborated to make this an event to remember.
