Band is performing well

If you have attended a football game this year, you have been treated to some of the finest performances of a high school band you will find. Our Pride of the Pinelands, the Jeff Davis High School Yellow Jacket Marching Band, has entertained the crowd to thunderous applause each Friday night this season. But the performances you see on Friday nights do not stop when halftime is over.
These young men and women have been putting in extra rigorous rehearsals to prepare for three competitions. Along with learning their halftime marching drills, they have been learning new choreography and marching routines to add to their already stupendous halftime show to perform their very best against other bands at these competitions.
Two of these competitions were held each of the last two Saturdays. These students not only represented Jeff Davis County and our community with their musical talent and ability, but exemplified proper conduct, behavior, and etiquette on behalf of our school and community.
The first of these competitions was the Sound of Silver held in Pierce County Oct. 14. The band scored the highest honor of Superior in the areas of Drum Major, Majorettes, Color Guard, Percussion, and Band. The Percussion section also brought home the honor of “Best in Class.” The competition consisted of 17 bands from all over southeast Georgia.
The second competition was the Battle on the Border, held at Lowndes County High School in Valdosta Oct. 21. Once again, the Pride of the Pinelands settled for nothing less than the best with ratings of Superior Drum Major, Majorettes, Color Guard, Percussion, and Band. The competition consisted of 16 bands from Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.
If you have not had the chance to experience a performance of our Superior rated band, you are invited to join us this Friday night at 7 p.m. at the football field for a special performance of our halftime show, as there is no football game this week.
We will also travel to Richmond Hill this Saturday for our last competition in pursuit of another Superior performance and rating.
