Former Tax Commissioner Brenda Graham Dies
Former Jeff Davis County Tax Commissioner Brenda Joyce Johnston Graham passed away Saturday at the age of 83.
Mrs. Graham served 34 years as Tax Commissioner of Jeff Davis County, securing her place as one of the most popular elected officials in the history of the county.
She was born June 30, 1940, the daughter of Howard and Kathryn Johnston. Among her favorite things to do was to attend events in which her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved.
Mrs. Graham was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Garner Graham, and brother Norman Johnson.
Survivors include her son Howard L. Graham; daughter Susie Kersey (Jon Barton); grandchildren, Erin (Logan Lee), Dustin (Katie) Kersey, Hannah Day, and Cari (Levi) Williams; great-grandchildren, Jolie and Maverik Kersey, Addison and Brooks Lee and Maggie Day; brother Bill (Teresa) Johnston; sister, Kay (Ronnie) Harrell; sister-in-law Maxie Jo Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Oct. 3 at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Miss Aidan Johnston, Mr. Dustin Kersey, Mr. Buck Elder and the Rev. Keith Yawn officiating.
Interment followed in Graham family Cemetery, Ira Graham Road, Hazlehurst.
