Bishop George Maxwell Thomas

Bishop George Maxwell Thomas died Oct. 8 after a short illness.
He was born in Jeff Davis County to the late Deacon George W. Thomas and Elder Ophelia McCoy Thomas. He graduated from Hazlehurst High School, Class of 1967.
At an early age, he joined Bennett Tabernacle Holiness Church. He later became President of the Sunday School Convention of the House of God the Church of the Living God the Gates of Heaven, Inc.
On April 29, 1971, he married Daisy Lee Jones Thomas. In 1988, he became the Founder and Pastor of Praise Tabernacle Holiness Church in Graham, where he served faithfully until God called home.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Co-Pastor Daisy L Thomas of Hazlehurst; brother Deacon Reno (Evang. Carrie Lee) Thomas of Hazlehurst; sister-in-laws Vera (Calvin) Clinton of Hazlehurst, Evang. Barbara Hunt of Augusta, Mother Marolyn Brantley of Hazlehurst; aunts Ollie Mae Harris, Odesia Hall, LouAnna (Robert) Griffin, and Reabie Mae Mincey, all of Hazlehurst; and a host of nieces, nephews, and God children.
Viewing will be held October 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at King Brothers Funeral Home in Hazlehurst.
Homegoing celebration will be Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at Bennett Tabernacle Holiness Church, Hazlehurst.
Burial will follow at Hazlehurst Memorial Cemetery.
