Little Brother Pitches To Big Brother
Thursday’s final game of Jeff Davis High’s regular season included a first for the Mullis family as freshman pitcher Reese Mullis threw to his older brother, junior catcher Carter Mullis, during an inning of relief pitching.
It appeared Carter may have been more nervous about teaming up with his younger brother than was the freshman Reese, as Carter had two rare passed balls in the inning.
Carter was cited for the first passed ball as Reese struck out the first batter swinging and the batter reached first base safely. After a fly out, Reese hit the next batter, putting runners on first and second.
Then the freshman settled down and struck out the next batter swinging. As the final batter was at the plate, the second passed ball moved the runners to second and third, putting more pressure on Reese. But Reese got the final batter to fly out to left to end the game.
It was a proud occasion for parents Steven and Abby Mullis — and for grandfather Arthur Yawn who was also at the game.
