Tennis teams have busy week
Jeff Davis Varsity Netters faced off against Worth County at home March 14.
Jeff Davis girls swept Worth with a 5-0 win. Aleah Parker and Noel Munoz played first doubles for the Lady Jackets winning in a tiebreaker for the 3rd set.
Jeff Davis boys won 4-1 against Worth. Marquez Patterson played the 1st singles spot and fought hard for his win. Caleb Beach and Cain Johnson played first doubles for the Jackets taking a 6-0, 6-0 win against Worth.
The Yellow Jackets headed down to Glynn Academy for the Golden Isles “Get Together.” The Yellow Jacket guys played Colquitt in the first round, losing a close match 2-3 overall.
Coach Kemp applauded the play of Bryaun Reyes at his second singles spot. “He played a really close match with a tough opponent, eventually taking the win with a tiebreaker.”
The guys then faced off once more against the Pierce County Bears. JD lost a heartbreaker to the Bears with an overall score of 2-3.
Coach Kemp bragged on the play of Brye Woods playing the number one singles spot during this match. “Brye really used his strengths to play versus Pierce. He had a tough opponent, but he never gave up on a point. He fought hard to pull one of the wins for Jeff Davis.”
The Lady Jackets also played Colquitt and Pierce. The Lady Jackets defeated Colquitt with a close 3-2 win. The Lady Jackets then faced off again against Pierce County. The Lady Jackets lost a heartbreaker with a final of 2-3. The Lady Jackets came home with a runner-up title for this tournament.
On March 21, the Jacket netters traveled to McKey Park in Valdosta to play region opponent Berrien.
