Soccer boys win three

Jeff Davis High’s soccer boys took a trio of victories, defeating Berrien County 4-3 Feb. 14, topping Dodge County 4-3 Feb. 16, and winning 4-0 over Worth County Feb. 21.
Against Berrien, Jeff Davis did well to maintain possession of the ball, but both teams remained scoreless during the first half. The second half was much of the same, but then the unthinkable happened. Josue Avila crossed the ball to the corner of the goal, and Berrien deflected the ball into their own net. To redeem themselves, Berrien delivered a big boot and quickly split through the defensive line to score a goal of their own.
This didn’t sit well with the JD boys. Less than a minute later, Freulin assisted Josue, who scored a sliding header. To add insult to injury, JD delivered another crushing blow. Konner Munsayac assisted Fernando Vega to increase the lead 3-1.
Then the unthinkable happened again. Berrien went on a monstrous run and quickly tied the game to initiate the overtime period. Both teams seemed evenly matched, and neither team ceded a goal until the second quarter of the period. Gael Valora was awarded a PK and delivered the final blow to win the match 4–3.
The Jeff Davis and Dodge rivalry continued Feb. 16 as they went head-to-head in a thrilling and entertaining match. Two minutes after kick-off, Gael Valora controlled a loose ball and drove it up field. He sent a threw the ball to Pedro Gonzalez, who crossed the ball to Fabian Valdelamar, who had an easy tap-in to make the game 1-0.
After ten minutes passed, a JD defensive error occurred once more. With one defender pushing up, there was a huge gap left in the middle, and Dodge took full advantage of it and tied the game before the second half ended, leaving the score 1-1.
The two teams would continue to battle during the second half, but nothing changed. The game was sent into overtime with both teams looking hungry for the win. Dodge took advantage in the first half of overtime, leaving the score 3-1, and also leaving JD with what might have seemed a certain loss. After an inspirational speech by head coach Brian Lawson, JD was once more awakened that dog in them. After pushing their limits, JD made a comeback to tie the game 3-3 and take the game to penalty kicks. JD would come out on top 3-4 in PKs after such a spectacular and close game.
Jeff Davis and Worth County kicked off their regional match Feb. 21. Despite the game’s high anticipation, it was very one sided. Jeff Davis scored early and did not take their foot off the gas. Pedro Gonzalez delivered a ground cross into the back of the net. A few minutes later, Konner Munsayac was fouled within 18 yards from the goal, giving JD a penalty kick opportunity. Gael Valora took the PK and sent it into the right side of the goal.
JD ended the first half with a lead of 2-1.
The second half was much of the same. Gael again led the charge. After an assist from Fernando Vega, Gael scored a banger.
With 13 minutes left in the second half, Josue Avila crossed the ball across the face of the goal. Konnor Munsayac deflected the ball into the net using his head, giving JD a 4-0 win.
