Tennis begins play

Last week on Tuesday, Yellow Jacket Tennis opened up their season with the Varsity Men’s and Women’s Teams winning their season openers. Both guys and ladies swept Fitzgerald 5-0 for a region win.
On Thursday the Yellow Jackets hosted the Pierce County Bears. Both varsity teams lost a nail biter to the Bears with the girls dropping 2-3 and the boys dropping a 1-4 loss.
Jeff Davis Tennis traveled to Cook County Feb. 7 for their second region match of the season.
Jeff Davis Women’s varsity defeated the Lady Hornets 5-0. Jeff Davis boys lost a nail biter 2-3 against the Hornets. Coaches bragged on the play of Demi Rush at her singles spot versus the Hornets. Demi is a solid player, and she played really aggressively versus the Hornets. Brye Woods played the 3rd singles on the men’s side. He played a great match against Drew from Cook. The match went into a tiebreaker with Brye winning by 2 points.
Both teams traveled to Swainsboro Feb. 8. The lady Jackets defeated Swainsboro with a 5-0 win.
Chandler Henry and Caidon Diaz played second doubles for the Jackets and pulled out a close one to finish the win for the team (4-1). Lexi Girtman played first singles for the Lady Jackets and was first off the court with her win. She played super consistently, even on a windy February day. She adjusted her shots beautifully as the game progressed.
