Soccer begins play
Jeff Davis went up against Appling County Feb. 1.
The Yellow Jackets conceded a goal early just 35 minutes into the game, giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets made a few tactical adjustments, but the score remained the same leading into the second half.
After numerous shot attempts, JD finally leveled the playing field. Sixteen minutes into the second half, Josue Avila intercepted the ball on a high press. Gael Valora received the ball from Josue and crossed it to Konnor Munsayac, who slid it (and himself) into the goal to tie the game and trigger an overtime period.
During overtime, JD continued to fight hard, but the game remained tied. Penalty kicks would now decide the game.
After consecutive saves, makes, and misses from both teams, Tony Toledo sent a ball into the middle of the net. Goalie Jose Lopez repelled a ball by Appling. JD’s next kicker would decide the match. Josue Avila kicked the ball into the left side of the goal, ensuring a 3-1 victory for the Yellow Jackets.
To begin the season, the Jeff Davis and the Long County soccer teams went head to head. Despite a solid second half, Jeff Davis failed to secure the victory, which resulted in a loss (1-4). Fortunately, their next game yielded a different outcome.
