Lady Jackets playing in Columbus

Kelsey Parlor prepares to pitch

Jeff Davis High’s softball team opened play in the Georgia Class 2A State Tournament in Columbus this morning (Wednesday) with an 11 a.m. game against Eagles Landing Christian Academy.
If the Lady Jackets win, they play Thursday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Appling County and Rockmart. A JD loss will put them in a 5 p.m. Thursday game against the loser of Appling and Rockmart.
The field in Columbus is a tough one as seven of the eight teams in the tournament won their respective region championships. Pierce County, the No. 4 team from Region 3AA, is the only region non-winner in the tournament.
Region 1AA made a good showing in the playoff rounds as No. 1 Jeff Davis, No. 2 Dodge, No. 3 Berrien, and No. 4 Cook all made it to the final game for a chance to earn a trip to Columbus. But the Lady Jackets were the only team to advance.
Following are the eight teams playing in Columbus and their season records:
Jeff Davis 30-1
ACE Charter 31-2
Appling County 25-2
Pierce County 18-11
Eagles Landing 24-7-1
Mt. Paran Christian 28-5
Rockmart 24-3
Union County 20-5
