Cross Country boys finish 3rd in state meet
After back-to-back 4th place finishes in 2021 and 2020 at the GHSA State Championship, the Jeff Davis Cross Country boys team set a new standard for the program with a third place finish Saturday.
The JD squad came into the race as the Region 1AA Champion and ranked 7th in AA by MileSplit. With no mention of the JD squad by MileSplit in the 2A State Preview it lit a fire under the team and they were determined to prove they were one of the best teams in the classification.
Junior Kevin Vega led the charge for the Yellow Jackets. Vega just missed qualifying as All-State Runner (Top 10) with a 12th place finish in 18:14.99. Junior Pierce Parlor finished 22nd, sophomore Josue Avila finished 24th, sophomore Gael Valora finished 31st, sophomore Joseluis Mendoza finished 49th, junior DJ Ryals finished 57th, and sophomore Jovanni Barragan finished 76th. Freshman Konnor Munsayac and Will Morris served as the alternates for the State Meet.
On the girls side the Lady Jackets finished 7th overall.The seventh place finish marks the 7th year in a row the Lady Jackets have finished in the Elite Eight.
Region 1AA Champion Alex Uribe (senior) led the way for the Lady Jackets with a 22nd place finish. Freshman Ellie Kate Marchant finished 38th, senior Flor Rangel finished 46th, sophomore Lily Relihan finished 51st, sophomore Rebecca Lopez finished 64th, sophomore Ali Lewis finished 67th, and senior Joselyn Avila finished 75th.
