JDMS wins conference

The Jeff Davis Middle School Yellow Jackets softball team won the Conference Championship by defeating East Laurens Middle School 8-5 and 13-11 in the best-of-3 championship series. The Lady Jackets finished the season with a 17-1 record.
In the 13-11 win in the final game Monday, JD took the lead late in the game.
The game was tied at 10 with JDMS batting in the top of the seventh when Ava Bohannon homered on the first pitch thrown to her, scoring three runs.
Bohannon led JDMS to victory by driving in six runs. She went 3-for-5 at the plate with a single and two 3-run homers.
East Laurens got on the board in the first inning with a pair of singles scoring two runs and led 4-0 going into the third when the Lady Jackets erupted for eight runs. Ryleigh King had a run-scoring single in the inning, Bohannon smacked a 3-run homer, and Jazmine Villasenor, Madison Joyce and Jaqueline Villasenor all singled, with Jaqueline driving in two runs.
The score was tied 8-8 after four and 10-10 after six.
Jaqueline Villasenor earned the win as she went seven innings, allowing 11 runs on eight hits, seven walks, and two hit batters, and striking out 11.
The ELMS pitcher surrendered 13 runs on 11 hits, striking out five.
Helping Bohannon at the plate were Jazmine Villasenor with a single and a triple, Ryleigh King with a single and a double, Jaqueline Villasenor with a single and two RBI, Riley Hughes and Madison Joyce with singles, and Chasity Jackson with a sacrifice and an RBI.
In the first game of the best-of-3 series Wednesday, Bohannon drove in five runs in the 8-5 win. She drove in runs with a triple in the first, a single in the second, and a home run in the sixth.
JDMS broke a 4-4 tie and took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth as Jazmine Villasenor doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
Bohannon led the batting with her single, triple, homer and five RBI and was also intentionally walked once. Madison Joyce had two singles and an RBI, Jazmine Villasenor had a double and two RBI, and Jaqueline Villasenor added a single.
On the mound, Jaqueline Villasenor got a season high 17 strikeouts. She gave up four hits, walked one and hit two batters.
