Metts, Parlor lead JDHS to 1-0 win
Jeff Davis High squeaked out a 1-0 Region 1-AA win over Dodge County last week in Eastman. A double header scheduled against the Lady Indians Thursday in Hazlehurst was rained out.
The game was a pitchers’ duel as JD’s Kelsey Parlor pitched a 1-hit shutout and Dodge’s Brooke Perdue gave up only five hits.
The Lady Jackets’ only run came in the top of the fifth as Bentlee Metts drilled a solo homer over the center field fence.
The Lady Jackets had a chance to score in the second inning as they had runners on second and third with one out but couldn’t get a run across the plate.
Jaci Underwood led off the fourth with a double and went to third on Maeleigh Burns’ sacrifice bunt but a pair of strikeouts ended the inning.
In the seventh JD threatened again as Cori Mims walked, went to second on a Metts sacrifice bunt and took third on Laisha Hernandez’ single but they couldn’t capitalize on the situation.
After Parlor gave up a harmless single in the third inning, she retired the last 13 batters in order to end the game.
Jenna Miles had a double and a single, Metts got the game-winning RBI with her home run, Underwood doubled and Hernandez singled.
Parlor walked two and struck out six.
