Jeff Davis Middle School’s Gold Team won one of three games last week, losing 11-6 to Wheeler County Middle School last Thursday, falling 6-5 to Ware County Middle School Friday in Hazlehurst, and rolling to a 13-0, 2-inning win over Toombs Middle School Saturday in Hazlehurst.
Against Wheeler Jeff Davis led 6-3 entering the bottom of the fifth inning when Wheeler erupted for eight runs to turn the game around.
Jeremiah Davis topped the Gold Team at the plate with a single, a double and two RBI. Tye Rea doubled, and Jacon Laney, Gio Torres and Braylon Varnadore each singled.
Torres took the loss on the mound. He pitched one inning, giving up five earned runs on six hits, walking no and striking out one. Henry Richardson pitched an inning, no-hitting Wheeler with two walks and a strikeout. Brice Bohannon threw three innings, yielding one earned run on four hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Against Ware, Tye Rea had a double and an RBI, Peyton Jones doubled, Gio Torres and Braydon Picanso both had a single and an RBI, Jeremiah Davis singled and Trey Ramay drove in a run.
Henry Richardson pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits, walking two and striking out four. Rea pitch 1/3 inning, giving up one run on one hit, walking one and striking out none.
The young Yellow Jackets got only one hit against Toombs, a single by Aiden Rish, as Toombs pitchers walked 12 Jacket batters and hit two more in the first inning alone when Jeff Davis scored all its runs.
Tye Rea got the win on the mound, pitching two innings and giving up no runs on three hits, no walks and three strikeouts.
