Lady Jackets lose two
Jeff Davis High’s girls basketball team began the 2021-2022 season with a slow start, dropping their two games in the Hugh McBride Tip-Off Tournament to Camden County and Citizens Christian Academy.
The Lady Jackets fell to Camden 53-31 and CCA downed them 59-28.
JD started strong against the Lady Cats from Camden, winning the first quarter 11-7 and trailing at halftime by only one at 16-15. But in the second half, the Lady Cats turned up the heat and won going away.
Morgan Yearty topped the Jeff Davis scoring with 9 points, Jekiyah Smith was close behind with 8, Tia Cornish had 6, Autumn Rhodes 5 and Jasmine McNeely added a 3-pt. shot.
Taylor Rietfield and Virgina Shorts led Camden to a 27-8 third quarter advantage with 10 and 8 points and they finished the evening with 16 and 10 points.
CCA jumped out to a big first half lead at 29-12 and then coasted to the win.
Cornish led Jeff Davis with 9 points, 7 coming in the third quarter alone. Yearty had 8, McNeely, Smith and Destiny Ivory each had 3, and Rhodes added 2. McNeely and Cornish both had shots from beyond the arc.
Addy Harris had 17 for CCA and Addle Vickers had 10.
