Jeff Davis High’s softball team improved to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 2-AA play with a pair of lopsided region victories last week. On Wednesday, the Lady Jackets routed Swainsboro 15-0 in three innings in Swainsboro and Thursday they ousted East Laurens 15-0 in three innings in Hazlehurst.
In Swainsboro, Kelsey Parlor and Jaci Underwood combined for a 1-hit shutout and the JD bats collected 12 hits.
Jeff Davis got three in the top of the first. Underwood had a 1-run double, Analese Poole singled, Alicia Lilliott drove in a run, and Maeleigh Burns had a 1-run single.
The Lady Jackets put four more on the board in the second. Laisha Hernandez started the inning with a bunt single, Ella Wood drew a 1-out walk and Underwood reached on an error to score the first run. A Poole sacrifice fly made it 5-0, Lilliott followed with a run-scoring double, and Burns and Kalleigh Sellers reached base on back-to-back errors as the visitors stretched the lead to 7-0.
Eight runs in the third sealed the Lady Tigers’ fate. Hernandez, Wood, Underwood, Lilliott and Kira Buford all singled in the inning, Poole and Sellers both doubled, and the Lady Tigers committed four errors.
Underwood and Lilliott both had a single, a double and three RBI. Poole had a single, a double and two RBI, Hernandez had two singles, Sellers doubled and drove in a run, Burns and Buford both singled and drove in a run, and Wood singled.
Parlor threw the first two innings, giving up one hit, walking none and striking out two. Underwood needed only five pitches, all strikes, to retire the side in the bottom of the third. She struck out the first batter on three looking strikes and then got the next two batters on first pitch ground outs.
The JD defense played without an error.
The East Laurens game was over quickly as the Lady Jackets out-classed the Lady Falcons.
Jeff Davis opened the bottom of the first with back-to-back doubles by Jenna Miles and Wood to go up 1-0. Three straight walks made it 2-0. Lilliott was safe on an error as two more runs crossed the plate and Hernandez laid down a run-scoring bunt to make it 5-0.
The Lady Jackets got nine runs in the second as Poole, Burns and Jacie Jones singled, Wood had a 2-run double, and Underwood hit a 2-run homer over the center field fence. That made it 14-0.
In the bottom of the third, Bentlee Metts led off with a double, Jones reached on an error, and Buford singled to score Metts with the game-ending 15th run.
Jeff Davis had 11 hits led by Wood with two doubles and three RBI, and Underwood with a single, a homer and two RBI. Miles had a double and an RBI, Metts doubled, Poole, Burns, Jones, Buford and Hernandez each had a single and an RBI, and Caitlyn Banks drove in a run.
Burns started on the mound and pitched the first two innings. She gave up one hit, walked none and struck out one. Underwood closed out the third, giving up one hit, walking one and fanning one.
