Jayvees win one of three
Jeff Davis High’s jayvee baseball team opened its season last Tuesday with an 11-6 loss to Wayne County, took a 5-3 win over Fitzgerald Thursday in Hazlehurst and then fell 11-10 to Ware County Friday in Waycross.
In Jesup, Alex Mason was 3-for-4 to lead the offense. Hayden Turner had a pair of singles and an RBI, Duke Stone had a triple and an RBI, Carter Mullis had a double and an RBI, Cason Clance had a single and an RBI, and Ethan Picanso and Kamden Munsayac both singled.
Turner took the loss on the mound. He went four innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, walking two and striking out one. Clance pitched two innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits, walking two and striking out three.
Against Fitzgerald, the Jackets scored their five runs on just two hits, a run-scoring double by Clance and a two-run single by Picanso.
Josh Griffin took the win on the mound, throwing five innings and giving up an unearned run on four hits, walking none, hitting one and striking out five. Bryson McLoon pitched an inning, giving up one run on two hits, walking one, hitting one and striking out two. Picanso pitched one no-hit inning, walking none and striking out two.
In Waycross, the Jackets saw a 10-5 lead evaporate as Ware County downed the young Jackets 11-10 Friday.
Turner had a pair of singles and an RBI, Mason had a single and two RBI, Stone and Picanso each had a single and an RBI, and Mullis and Tre Rea both singled.
Clance took the loss in relief. He pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up one earned run on four hits, walking two and striking out five. Mullis pitched two innings, giving up three runs on no hits, walking four and striking out none. Munsayac threw two innings, giving up a pair of unearned runs on two hits, walking one and striking out four. McLoon gave up a walk and hit a batter.
