Final Murder Suspect Arrested

Last Thursday morning, Jeff Davis Sheriff Preston Bohannon and Chief Deputy Keith Rea apprehended Douglas Wooten, the last of four suspect’s wanted in the Jan. 4 shooting death of Marcos Ramirez.
Sheriff Bohannon said the Sheriff’s Department received a tip Thursday morning that Wooten was at 221 Quick Stop on the Uvalda Highway purchasing beer. He said he and Rea were only two minutes away from the store when the call came in and the two were able to get to the store and arrest Wooten before he could get away.
The Sheriff’s Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation had been looking for Wooten, 39, since shortly after the Monday shooting. Arrested previously were Kegan Bennett, 39, Denver Wooten, 18, and Verlyttia Ivory, 32. All four suspects are from Hazlehurst.
All four have been charged with felony murder, home invasion and armed robbery. Douglas Wooten and Ivory are facing additional charges of cruelty to children in the second degree.
Ramirez, 54, who had come to Jeff Davis County from Mexico and had lived her for 30 years, left behind four children and two grandchildren, all of whom reside in Jeff Davis County.
