JDMS boys soccer wins conference
For the first time in program history, the JDMS Boys’ Soccer team became Conference Champions last Wednesday. They finished the regular season 5-1 and went into the playoffs as a No. 1 seed, for the first time as well.
In the semifinals, the Yellow Jackets faced a very good J. R. Trippe Chiefs team, who defeated them during the regular season. After regulation time and overtime they went in to PKs where goalkeeper, JT Clifton, along with PK scorers, Fabian Valdelamar, Josue Avila, and Manny Porras, made key saves and goals in a sudden death PK shootout to lead the Yellow Jackets in to the Championship Final against the West Laurens Raiders.
Late in the first half of the Championship Final the Yellow Jackets found a goal to put them up before the half. After Gael Valora’s attempt to score was blocked by the keeper, the ball fell in front of Josue Avila who was able to tap it in for a 1-0 score at the half.
Early in the second half the ball landed at the foot of Fabian Valdelamar who took a shot from 20 yards out to put the Yellow Jackets up 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets held out the Raiders leaving the score 2-0 giving them their first ever Conference Championship and finishing off with a personal best 7-1 season record.
