Vidalia hands Jackets first loss

Vidalia High School junior quarterback Bryce Davis proved to be too much for Jeff Davis High School’s football team Friday night in Vidalia as the Indians rolled to a 42-18 win over previous unbeaten Yellow Jackets.
JD fell to 5-1 and 1-1 in Region 2 AA while the Indians improved to 3-2 and 1-0.
The Jackets had a tough time cracking Vidalia’s strong defensive unit but managed a 12-7 halftime lead. But in the third quarter the Indians wasted little time erasing Jacket lead, scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the stanza to carry a 28-12 lead into the final quarter. The lead stretched to 35-12,  the Jackets came back to cut it to 35-18 but Davis put the final nail in the coffin with a 75 yard scoring jaunt to account for the final 42-18 score.
Jeff Davis kicked off the Vidalia to start the contest and the Indians quickly put together a 12 play, 62 yard drive that reached the Jacket 12 before JD’s Cade Walters came up with a big stop on 4th-and-3 to stop the drive.
Two plays later Vidalia claimed a fumble at the Jeff Davis 11 and scored in two plays to take a 7-0 lead.
Jeff Davis fought right back marching 79 yards in 10 plays and scoring on 4th-and-8 from the Vidalia 33 on a pass from Walters to CJ Parker. The two point extra point try failed and Vidalia led 7-6.
Vidalia took the ensuing kickoff and marched from their own 20 to the Jacket 7 in 15 plays only to miss a short field goal attempt.
Two possessions later the Jackets scored on a 7 play drive late in the first half, capped by a Walters-to-Parker pass. Again the two point conversion failed but Jeff Davis led 12-7 at intermission.
The third quarter was a nightmare for the Jackets. On Vidalia’s first possession of the quarter Davis broke free for a 44 yard TD run, putting the host up 14-12.
After a 3-and-out, Vidalia scored in three plays from the Vidalia 43 to go up 21-12.
On the second play after the kickoff, the Indians intercepted a pass and were in business at the Jacket 34. It took the Indians six plays as Davis scored on a keeper and Vidalia led 28-12.
Early in the final quarter Vidalia recovered a Jacket fumble at the JD 27. Three plays later Davis scored from 25 yards out to up the score to 35-12.
After an exchange of punts, the Jackets rolled 57 yards in two plays with Aahiyus Allen picking up 45 yards on first down and Willie Skipper scoring on the next play from 12 yards out. Two point try failed and the score was 35-18.
On the first play after the ensuing kickoff, Davis weaved his way 65 yards for the final score making it 42-18.
