Cross country teams win region titles

Jeff Davis High School hosted the 2020 Region 2-AA cross country championship meet lat week at the middle school
In the boys race Jeff Davis and Vidalia teams paced the group as the first 10 finishers were from those 2 teams. Pierce Parlor and Briley Reyes led the entire race until Michael Blount (Vidalia) made a move in the last 600m to pass both JD runners to take the individual title. Four Yellow Jacket runners finish in the Top 6 to claim All- Region honors (Briley Reyes – 2nd, Pierce Parlor – 3rd, Levi Manning – 5th, Kevin Vega – 6th).
In the girls race the Jeff Davis and Vidalia teams were also as dominant as nine of the first ten finishers were from those two schools. Cloey Sanders from Toombs County was the lone runner to break up the Jeff Davis-Vidalia runners in the Top 10. Junior Zoie Marchant chased Sarah Owens (Vidalia) for the first mile and half before making an impressive surge to take the lead for the last half of the race, clenching her third straight individual region cross country title. Sophomores Alex Uribe and Flor Rangel finished in the Top 6 individuals to also take home All- Region honors.
The top 4 teams from the region will advance to the State Championship meet next Saturday at Carrollton HS. Boys will race at 12:45 p.m. and the girls at 1:15.
