Lady Jackets Improve To 8-2

Jeff Davis High got a pair of Region 2-AA softball wins last week, downing Bacon County 5-0 Tuesday in Alma and topping East Laurens 8-1 Thursday in East Dublin.
The wins left Jeff Davis with an 8-2 overall record and 4-0 in the region going into Tuesday’s home contest against Vidalia, 12-2 and 4-0.
Kelsey Parlor pitched a 2-hit shutout against the Lady Raiders who have lost only to Vidalia and Jeff Davis in region play.
The Lady Jackets broke out of a scoreless tie with a 2-run fourth inning.
Going into the fourth, Jenna Miles was the only Jeff Davis baserunner with a first-inning walk. She started things in the fourth with a lead-off double. Ella Wood got a 1-out single to score Miles and Bianca Torres followed with a single to move Wood to third. Maeleigh Burns reached on an error to drive Wood across the plate.

Parlor allowed harmless singles in the second and sixth innings. She retired 10 of the first 11 batters she faced. The only trouble she experienced was in the fifth as an error and a walk put two batters on base with no one out. But she struck out the next batter, catcher Poole caught the lead runner trying to steal third and the next batter flied out to right to end the inning.
The fifth inning walk was the only free pass Parlor gave up as she struck out six.
Four Lady Jackets had two hits to lead the 10-hit attack. Poole and Torres each had a double and a single and two RBI, Miles singled and doubled, and Carter had a pair of singles. Underwood and Wood both singled and Burns drove in a run.
East Laurens homered in the first inning to take the lead but it was short lived as the Lady Jackets scored two in the second to take the lead for good.

JD scored four more in the fourth. Burns started things again, this time with a 1-out walk and Zoe Spencer came on to run for her. Parlor then walked and Thigpen singled again to score Spencer and push Bentlee Metts, who was running for Parlor, to third. Carter then reached on an error as Metts scored. A 2-out walk to Jaci Underwood loaded the bases and \ Wood followed with a 2-run single to make it 6-1.
Jeff Davis scored single runs in the sixth and seventh with a bases loaded single by Wood in the sixth, and a run-scoring Carter single.

The defense turned one double play as Underwood fielded a grounder at third, relayed to Miles at second for one out and Miles threw to Wood at first to complete the DP.
