Lady Jackets Sweep Pierce

Jeff Davis High’s softball team held on for a 3-2 win over Pierce County last Thursday in Hazlehurst. In the preliminary jayvee game, the Lady Jackets squeaked out a 5-4 win.
The Lady Jacket varsity scored their runs early with a single run in the first and two in the second. The Lady Bears scored single runs in the third and fourth innings.
JD got out of a jam in the first inning, turning a double play with runners on 1st and 2nd with no one out. Jaci Underwood fielded a grounder to third, stepped on the bag and threw to Ella Wood at first to complete the twin killing.
In the bottom of the first, a pair of walks, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Annalese Poole got Jeff Davis on the board.
In the second, Alicia Lilliott opened the inning with a walk and Tia Cornish followed with a homer over the left field wall to complete the Lady Jacket scoring.
Both of Pierce County’s runs came with two outs.
Cornish’s 2-run homer was the big hit for Jeff Davis.

Kelsey Parlor went the distance on the mound, giving up one earned run on five hits, walking three and fanning three.
In the jayvee game, Ella Wood went 3-for-4 at the plate with a trio of singles and an RBI. Maeleigh Burns had a pair of singles and an RBI, Tia Cornish doubled in a run and Jekiya Smith and Laisha Hernandez both singled.
