All parks closed dusk to dawn
In the aftermath of an early Sunday morning melee at Mary Frazier McLean Community Park on Young Street that resulted in a shooting, Mayor Bayne Stone has announced that the Hazlehurst Police Department will strictly enforce ordinances for all city parks.
Specifically, said Stone, all parks will be closed from dusk until dawn. Those include Mary Frazier McLean, Buddy Spann Park, Weatherly Park and Hazlehurst Water World Splash Pad.
“The Hazlehurst Police Department has the obligation to protect and serve all citizens,” said Stone. “We have a professional department that balances public safety while protecting individual rights.”
Stone also noted that parking on and blocking city streets are violations of city ordinances, and any vehicle not in compliance will be towed at the owner’s expense.
The Hazlehurst Police Department is thoroughly investigating the incident and has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for the shooting.
