Mrs. Babara Jones Wood, 77

Mrs. Barbara Jones Wood, 77, of Hazlehurst, died July 29 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mrs. Wood was born Feb. 1, 1943, in Jeff Davis County to the late Thomas E. Jones and the late Elizabeth McEachin Jones. She was retired from Jeff Davis County Board of Education. She touched the lives of so many students, parents, teachers and administrators in the school system with her kindness and understanding. Her life meant so much more to her when she was helping others, the world was a better place with her in it. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Jones.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis Wood of Hazlehurst; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Buddy Smith of Hazlehurst; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Tina Wood of Hazlehurst; brothers, B.J. Jones (Linda) of Hazlehurst and Hershell Jones (Jessie) of Douglas; sisters, Fillis Branch, Alice Wilcox (Maxwell), Debbie Quinn (Larry) all of Hazlehurst; granddaughters, Ella Wood of Hazlehurst, Nikki (Austin) Vannoy of Valdosta and Misty (Adam) Garcia of St. Simon’s Island; great-grandsons, Maverick Garcia of St. Simon’s Island and Grady and Oliver Vannoy of Valdosta.
Private graveside services were held Aug. 1 in Palms Memorial Garden with the Rev. Thomas Colter officiating.
