Mr. William ‘Gary’ Thigpen, 67
Mr. William “Gary” Thigpen, 67, of Charleston, S.C., and of Cobbtown, passed away July 4 at Roper Hospice Cottage in Mount Pleasant, S.C., surrounded by his family.
Born in Wheeler County, he was a son of William Walter Thigpen and Laura Lawrence Thigpen. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War. Gary was a graduate of Georgia Southern College, now Georgia Southern University, where he received his degree in political science. He worked as an engineer for several companies throughout the years and owned and operated TAM Industries in Glennville. In years past, he was a member of United Way, Tattnall County Lyons Club and Rotary Club and Tattnall County Chamber of Commerce. He was currently employed by Stokes Honda of North Charleston, S.C. Gary loved ice cream, was an avid Georgia fan, but most of all he loved his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Calli Brooke Medlock.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Shonda and Ricky Sikes of Cobbtown; son and daughter-in-law, Will and Miranda Thigpen of Pulaski; mother of his children and longtime friend, Pat Thigpen; sisters, Joyce Roberts and Joan Arrington; brothers, Rosby Thigpen, Ronald Thigpen and Donnie Thigpen; grandchildren, Hannah Medlock, Kie Sikes, Zoey Sikes, Marley Thigpen, Eastan Thigpen, and Lynley Thigpen; great-grandchild, Brooklyn Parrish; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held July 7 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, of Cobbtown with the Rev. Jeffery Spell officiating.
Pallbearers were Eastan Thigpen, Ian Ping, Trey Kirkland, Ricky Esquivel, Zack Parrish, Levi McMurtry, and Jermery Washington.
Interment was in Sunlight Cemetery.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, of Cobbtown was in charge.
