Jeff Davis Gets First COVID-19 Death
Jeff Davis County has had its first COVID-19 related death.
As of April 28, Jeff Davis County had 14 individuals who tested positive for COVID-19, double the number from the previous week.
Neighboring Appling County had a surge in reported cases over the past week as, according to an article from The Baxley News-Banner, the number of positive COVID-19 cases among residents at Appling Nursing and Rehabilitation Pavilion had increased to 58, two of which resulted in death.
That pushed Appling County’s total to more than triple, from 21 last week to 64 this week.
According to the article, the nursing home is administering COVID-19 tests provided by the Georgia Department of Public Health to the remaining residents and re-testing six residents that previously reported negative results.
Another employee of the nursing home has tested positive for the coronavirus and results for five other employees are pending. All employees that previously tested negative are being re-tested per GDPH guidance.
The National Guard was scheduled to return to the nursing home late last week to provide additional sanitation and infection control procedures.
