Mrs. Mildred Cothern Hand, 89

Mrs. Mildred Cothern Hand, 89, of Denton, passed away April 18 at Jeff Davis Hospital.
Mrs. Hand was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Coffee County. She was a member of Denton Baptist Church and a homemaker who helped her husband on the family farm where they received many awards including Farm Family of the Year. She was a member of several quilting clubs, grew beautiful flowers, and was an excellent cook who always had a place at her table for anyone who would join her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stella and Marvin (Buddy) Cothern, husband of 71 years, L.A. Hand Jr., great-grandson, Everett Lail, three sisters, and three brothers.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Arlene and Earl Merritt of McRae and Barbara Luberoff of Lexington, S.C.; grandchildren, Andrea Merritt Davidson (Sim) of McRae, Avril Tharp Lail (Davin) of Cayce, S.C., and Zachary Tharp of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Emily Davidson, Merritt Davidson, and Millie Davidson all of McRae, Liam Lail and Stella Lail of Cayce, S.C.; many nieces and nephews; and caregiver friends, Ruth Sapp and Sondra Partin.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private graveside service with only immediate family was held, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment followed in the Denton Cemetery.
