Ms. Mattie Jo Kirby Collins, 77

Services for Ms. Mattie Jo Kirby Collins, 77, who died March 9, were held March 14 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Dr. James Minor officiated with burial in Philadelphia Cemetery in Hazlehurst.
Ms. Collins, born in Hazlehurst, was the daughter of the late James and Doshia Kirby. She attended Jeff Davis High School. She married Roland McKinnley in 1961 and had three children. She moved to Atlanta in 1965 and worked at the Atlanta Public Schools where she served 35 years working in the cafeteria. Some of her favorite pastimes were cooking, talking on the phone, spending time with her family, attending church, traveling, going to the beach and bargain shopping. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Jennifer Dotson and Melinda Dotson; five brothers, James Curt Kirby, Marvin Lee Kirby, Manson Kirby, Otis Kirby, and Eddie Kirby, and a sister, Willie Mae Kirby Montford.
Survivors include her son, Roland M. Dotson Jr. (Martha) of Stockbridge; five grandchildren, Keilah David of Atlanta, Elishia Dotson of Norfolk, WV, Elias Dotson (Marion) and Gabrielle Dotson, both of Atlanta and Demario Dotson of Detroit, Mich; eight great-grandchildren, Zakiyah Dotson, Aryianna Dotson, Golden Roberson, Jaylen Dotson, Jermarri Marshall, Jeremiah Marshall, Raelynn Dotson, and Kaci Carter; a brother, Linzo Kirby (Sylvia) of Atlanta; a sister, Virginia Kirby of Fayetteville; and a host of relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers were nephews.
Music was rendered by Mattie Parker, Dotson Family, and Choir
Thornton’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
