Man Dies Fleeing Police

A 38-year-old Hazlehurst man died last Tuesday night when he lost control of his car while trying to elude a law enforcement officer and crashed on Elizabeth Church Road.
According to a Georgia State Patrol report, Abdul Jabar Rajai Furcron was traveling at a high rate of speed in his 1997 Cadillac Seville while being chased by a Hazlehurst Police officer at approximately 8:45 p.m. He was negotiating a curve while traveling east on Elizabeth Church Road near its intersection with Cotton Patch Road.
The car entered the westbound lane of traffic, rotated clockwise and traveled approximately 56 feet across both lanes of traffic. The vehicle left the roadway on the south shoulder while sliding sideways and traveled 92 feet, striking a tree with its driver’s door. The impact caused the vehicle to partially wrap around the tree and roll in an upward direction. The impact was approximately 36 feet from the roadway.
