Region basketball tournament

The 2020 Region 2-AA basketball tournament being played in Metter got underway Tuesday when No. 6 and No. 7 seeds, and No. 5 and No. 8 seeds faced off.
In girls action, that put St. Vincent’s Academy (10-15) playing Metter (9-16) and Swainsboro (15-10) facing Toombs County (5-19). In boys play, it was Bacon County (8-12) vs. Toombs County (5-19) and Metter (14-11) taking on Bryan County (0-25).
Tonight’s (Wednesday) action Woodville-Tompkins girls (14-11) play the St. Vincent’s/Metter winner and Jeff Davis’ girls (17-8) take on the Swainsboro-Toombs winner.
In boys play tonight, Vidalia (18-6) meets the Bacon/Toombs winner and Woodville-Tompkins (14-11) faces the Metter/Bryan winner.
The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds received byes until Friday night’s semifinals with the Vidalia (20-4) and Bryan (21-4) girls and the Swainsboro (23-2) and Jeff Davis (18-7) boys meeting the teams emerging from the first two nights of play.
The Jacket boys play at 5:30 Thursday while the Lady Jackets, if they win their Wednesday night game, play at 7.
There are early start times for Saturday’s consolation and championship games. Friday night’s losing girls teams play at 2, the losing boys teams play at 3:30. The championship games for girls and boys are scheduled to start at 5 and 6:30.
