Hoops teams play in Augusta
The brackets are formed for the 2020 Georgia High School Association Class AA State Basketball Tournament.
Jeff Davis High’s girls will travel to Augusta Friday for a 6 p.m. game at Josey High School. The boys will also travel to Augusta for a 4:30 p.m. Saturday game at Laney High School. Both JDHS teams are No. 3 seeds from Region 2-AA. Josey’s girls and Laney’s boys are both No. 2 seeds from Region 4-AA.
On the girls side, Region 2-AA vs. Region 4-AA has No. 1 Vidalia (22-4) hosting No. 4 Jefferson County (12-15), No. 2 Bryan County (22-5) at home against No. 3 Butler (18-9), No. 3 Jeff Davis (19-9) at No. 2 Josey (22-5) and No. 4 Metter (11-18) at No. 1 Laney (25-2).
On the boys side, No. 1 Swainsboro (25-2) is at home against No. 4 Jefferson County (15-12), No. 2 Vidalia (20-7) hosts No. 3 Butler (18-6), No. 3 Jeff Davis (18-8) travels to No. 2 Laney (20-8), and No. 4 Woodville-Tompkins (15-12) goes to No. 1 Glenn Hills (19-7).
In the girls Region 2-AA tournament, in Tuesday’s games Metter defeated St. Vincent’s Academy 52-38 and Swainsboro defeated Bacon County 53-45.
In Wednesday’s play, Jeff Davis edged Swainsboro 33-31 and Metter upset Woodville-Tompkins 55-49.
In Friday’s semifinals, No. 1 seed Vidalia defeated Jeff Davis 50-30 and Bryan County topped Metter 52-34.
In Saturday’s seeding game, Jeff Davis won 35-32 over Metter and in the championship game, Vidalia squeaked by Bryan County 67-58 in two overtime periods.
In the boys Region 2-AA tournament, on Tuesday Metter defeated Bryan County 61-33
In Wednesday’s action, Vidalia downed Bacon County 62-49 and Woodville-Tompkins topped Metter 81-45.
In Friday’s semifinals, Vidalia bested Jeff Davis 63-59 and Swainsboro won over Woodville-Tompkins 87-54.
In Saturday’s seeding game, Jeff Davis blew past Woodville-Tompkins 84-52. In the championship game, Swainsboro ran away with a 78-55 win over Vidalia.
