Lady Jackets are 9-5
Jeff Davis High’s girls basketball team lost two of three games in a tournament at Ware County and split a pair of regular season games as they went to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in Region 2-AA.
In Waycross, the Lady Jackets fell 38-28 to Clinch County, dropped a 54-13 game to Bradwell Institute and defeated host Ware County 40-39. Coach Niki Perry’s girls defeated Charlton County 35-25 in Hazlehurst and fell 60-48 to region-leading Bryan County in Pembroke.
Against Clinch, Jakhia Greene led the way with eight points including a three-pointer and Keke McDuffie was close behind with two shots from behind the arc for six points. Morgan Yearty added four, Tia Cornish and Jekiya Smith three each, and Tania Hall and Kelsey Parlor two apiece.
Zyhia Johnson and Angel McRae accounted for 34 of Clinch’s 38 points with 17 apiece.
Bradwell Institute’s 12-4 Class 6A team was simply too much for the Lady Jackets as they held JD to only four first half points en route to the 54-13 win.
Freshman Analese Poole’s six points led the JDHS scoring. Cornish had four, McDuffie two and Sherondi Fuller one.
Jade Brooks topped Bradwell with 18.
Greene scored nine points in the fourth quarter against Ware as Jeff Davis went into the quarter trailing 29-26 but rallied for a 40-39 win.
McDuffie led JD’s scoring with 13 and Greene finished with 11. Hall had eight, Yearty three, Poole and Laniyah Vann two apiece and Jasmine McNeely one.
Charlese McClendon topped all scorers with 24 for Ware.
Greene scored eight points to lead the Lady Jackets’ balanced scoring attack in the 35-25 win over visiting Charlton County.
Cornish and Smith had seven each, Parlor had six, McDuffie five and Yearty two. McDuffie and Greene both had 3-pt. shots.
Jadie Brown paced Charlton with 11.
Bryan County entered its game with Jeff Davis as the heavy favorite but Jeff Davis battled to a 25-25 halftime tie. But the Lady Redskins’ Diana Rawls took over in the second half to lead her team to the win. Rawls finished the game with 40 points.
McDuffie and Greene were both in double figures with 17 and 12. Yearty had eight, Smith four, Cornish three, and McNeely and Fuller two each. McDuffie hit a pair of 3-pt. shots.
