JDMS wins conference

Conference champs for the second straight year
Jeff Davis Middle School’s softball team won its second straight conference championship last week, defeating Dodge County 12-6 in the semifinals and topping West Laurens 8-5 in the championship game.
In the semifinal game, Jeff Davis took a 12-6 win over Dodge County in Hazlehurst.
Maggie Spell had a single, a double and two RBI, Kalleigh Sellers and Laisha Hernandez had two singles, Cori Mims had a single and an RBI, Kira Buford had a single and a sacrifice, and Jenna Miles, Jacie Underwood, Ella Wood and Bentlee Metts singled.
Underwood was the winning pitcher. She gave up 10 hits, hit one, walked none and struck out two.
Playing West Laurens in Dublin, the Lady Jackets found themselves down 3-0 but a 5-run third inning gave them a 5-3 lead and they never trailed again. West Laurens got within 6-5 but JDMS then pulled away to the 3-run win.
Miles and Hernandez each had three singles, Underwood had a single, a double and two RBI, Sellers and Buford had a single and an RBI, Ella Wood, Mims and Spell singled and Metts had a sacrifice.
Underwood was the winning pitcher, going the distance and giving up 10 hits, walking two, hitting one and striking out six.
