Jeff Davis High’s softball team had a busy week with six games, winning three of them.
The Lady Jackets lost a region game to visiting Bryan County 6-3 Tuesday, fell to Long County 7-2 Wednesday in a non-region game, topped Region 2-AA foe Toombs County 8-2 Thursday, lost a pair of games Wednesday in the Jones County High School Tournament in Gray, falling 8-0 to Houston County and 7-3 to Jones County, and taking a 3-1 victory over Telfair County Monday in McRae.
The games left JD with a 4-5 overall record and a 1-1 mark in Region 2-AA.
The Lady Jackets out-hit Bryan County 6-5 but couldn’t get the runs they needed. They jumped on top 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning but Bryan built its lead to 6-2 through 5 1/2 innings and held on for the win.
Fefe Greene led off the first, reaching when she was hit by a pitch. She went to second on an Allie Lytle sacrifice bunt, reached third on Paige Carter’s ground out and scored on a wild pitch. Then Dee Wooten homered over the center field fence to put JD up 2-0.
In the third, Lytle had a two-out single and Paige Carter doubled but the Lady Jackets couldn’t get a run across the plate.
In the sixth, Wooten homered again, this time over the left field fence .
With two homers and two RBI, Wooten led the offense, Carter and Annalese Poole both had doubles, and Lytle and Jakhia Greene both singled.
Kelsey Parlor took the loss in relief. She went five innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, walking none and striking out five. Kesleigh Poe started on the mound and went two innings, giving up one earned run on two hits, walking three and striking out five.
The Lady Jacket defense committed six errors as Bryan had only two earned runs.
Wednesday in Ludowici, Jeff Davis fell behind early and couldn’t rally, falling 7-2 to Long County.
The Lady Jackets got single runs in the fourth and fifth but went into the fourth trailing 5-0.
Allie Lytle led off the fourth with a bunt single, went to second as Dee Wooten reached on an error, and scored on an Annalese Poole single to center. Jeff Davis had runners at second and third with only one out but couldn’t get another run in.
In the fifth, Jakhia Greene drew a one-out walk and scored on a Fefe Greene double to center.
Fefe Greene led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a single, double, triple, an RBI and two stolen bases. Poole singled and drove in a run and Kesleigh Poe and Allie Lytle each had a single.
Bianca Torres was the losing pitcher. She went one inning, giving up three earned runs on four hits, walking two and striking out none. Cara Edwards pitched an inning, giving up one run on three hits, walking none and striking out none. Kelsey Parlor threw the final four innings, giving up a pair of unearned runs on three hits, walking two and striking out two.
Thursday in Lyons, the Lady Jackets used a 9-hit attack to roll to an 8-2 win over Toombs County.
Jeff Davis struck for three runs in the top of the first inning as Allie Lytle singled, Paige Carter walked and Dee Wooten polled a 3-run, line-drive home over the left field fence.
They added three more runs in the third as Fefe Greene singled, went to second on an error, reached third on a Lytle ground out and scored on a wild pitch. Carter and Wooten then drew back-to-back walks, and then pulled a double steal to get to second and third. Carter scored on Annalese Poole’s sacrifice fly and Wooten went to third. Wooten scored on an Alicia Lilliott single.
JD got single runs in the fourth and fifth.
In the fifth, Wooten singled and Cara Edwards came on to pinch run. After a pair of pop outs, Edwards scored all the way from first when Bianca Torres was safe on an error by Toombs’ center fielder.
Wooten had a single, double, homer, three RBI and a stolen base. Lytle had a trio of singles and an RBI, Fefe Greene singled and tripled, Lilliott singled and drove in a run, and Poole had an RBI. Carter added a stolen base.
The defense did not commit an error.
Kesleigh Poe was the winning pitcher. She went four innings, giving up two runs on four hits, walking four and striking out two. Kelsey Parlor pitched three innings, blanking Toombs on one hit, walking none and striking out two.
Jeff Davis’ first game in Gray was an 8-0 loss to Houston County. The Lady Jackets got only three hits, singles by Paige Carter, Jakhia Greene and Bianca Torres. Greene had a stolen base.
Kesleigh Poe took the loss. She went 3 2/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out none. Kelsey Parlor pitched 1 1/3 innings, blanking Houston on one hit, no walks, and no strikeouts.
The Lady Jackets managed only four hits as they fell 7-3 to Jones County.
Trailing 5-0 on five unearned runs, the Lady Jackets got on the board in the third with Bianca Torres getting a leadoff double, going to third on a Karlie Watson ground out and scoring on Jakhia Greene’s ground out.
A pair of Jones errors, a hit batter and a Dee Wooten single allowed Jeff Davis to score two runs in the sixth.
Torres got two hits with a single and a double. Wooten had a single and an RBI, Kesleigh Poe singled and Jakhia Greene drove in a run.
The JD defense committed six errors as none of the Lady Greyhounds’ runs were earned.
Paige Carter started on the mound and took the loss. She went 1 2/3 innings and gave up five unearned runs on four hits, walked one and struck out none.
Torres pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits, walking none and striking out none. Cara Edwards pitched an inning, giving up no runs on one hit, walking none and striking out none.
In McRae Monday, the Jackets hit the ball well with 11 hits but the runs were hard to come by. Kesleigh Poe pitched a 2-hitter over six innings and Kelsey Parlor earned a save by putting down the Lady Trojans in order in the seventh.
In the first, Allie Lytle reached on an error and scored on a 2-out double by Dee Wooten.
In the fifth, leading 1-0, JD scored as Fefe Greene tripled and scored on a Paige Carter ground out.
Telfair cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth but Jeff Davis responded with a single run in the seventh. Jakhia Green and Fefe Greene started the inning with a single and a double. An out later, Carter singled to score Jakhia Greene.
Fife Greene had a double and a triple, Wooten had a single and double and drove in a run, Bianca Torres had a pair of singles, Carter singled and had two RBI, Lytle, Poe, Annalese Poole and Jakhia Green each had singles.
Poe pitched six innings, giving up one run on two hits, walking three and fanning one. Parlor got one of her three outs by strikeout.
