Jayvee Softball Opens Play

Jeff Davis High’s jayvee softball team got its season off to a 3-1-1 start, defeating Wayne County 7-5, rolling over Bacon County 15-5, settling for a 5-5 tie when rain halted the game against Tattnall County, falling 9-0 to Effingham County and winning 7-2 over Pierce County.
Against Wayne, Alicia Lilliott homered and drove in three runs, Maeleigh Burns and Tia Cornish both doubled and drove in a run, and Peyton Thigpen, Annalese Poole, Kelsey Parlor and Laniyah Vann each singled.
Kelsey was the winning pitcher. She went four innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, walking one and striking out 10. Caitlin Banks pitched two innings, giving up three runs on two hits, walking one and striking out two.
In the Bacon game, the Lady Raiders had a 5-4 lead through three innings but Jeff Davis scored 11 runs over the final two innings to win in six innings.
Burns had a pair of singles and three RBI, Vann singled twice and drove in a run, Cornish and Poole each doubled and had an RBI, Lilliott, Banks and Jakiya Smith each singled and drove in a run, and Thigpen singled.
Burns went the distance on the mound, giving up three earned runs on six hits, walking none and striking out three.
In the Tattnal game, Cornish doubled, Parlor singled and drove in a run, and Thigpen, Poole, and Lilliott each singled.
Banks pitched two innings, giving up three runs on four hits, walking one, hitting three and striking out three, and K. Edwards pitched four innings, giving up two runs on five hits, walking none and striking out two.
Effingham County scored nine runs in the first three innings to take a 9-0 win over Jeff Davis.
Lilliott got JD’s only hit.
Banks was the losing pitcher. She went 1 2/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits, walking four and striking out two. Edwards pitched 1 2/3 inning, giving up no runs on one hit, walking one and striking out none. Burns threw 2/3 inning, giving up four runs on one hit, walking four and striking out none.
In the Pierce game, Lilliott had two singles and two RBI, Cornish had two singles and one RBI, Burns had a single and an RBI, Poole and Vann both singled, and Thigpen had an RBI.
Burns went the distance on the mound to get the win. She gave up one earned run on six hits, walked four, hit one and struck out two.
