Jeff Davis Wall of Faces Now Complete

Ssgt Robert W. Toler Jr.

SFC Lonnie V. Merchant

Sgt. Jimmy H. Mercer

SSgt. Jesse H. Hughes

Pfc George E. Hatten

Efforts by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund resulted in photographs being obtained of all five Jeff Davis County soldiers who died in the Vietnam War.
Last November, only two of the five photos had been found — SSgt. Jesse H. Hughes and Sgt. Jimmy H. Mercer.
Shortly after a Nov. 14, 2018, news story in the Ledger, the photo of SSgt. Robert W. Toler Jr. was brought to the Ledger office by his relative, Zell Moody, and forwarded to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund web site.
In the last two weeks, photos of Pfc. George E. Hatten and Sfc. Lonnie V. Merchant were located to complete the project for Jeff Davis County.
Hughes, born June 2, 1939, was killed Jan. 15, 1966.
Hatten, born April 7, 1946, was killed May 6, 1967.
Merchant, born Nov. 9, 1931, died Sept. 9, 1969.
Mercer, born May 20, 1949, died July 26, 1970.
And Toler, born March 2, 1943, died Dec. 5, 1970.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund has been working to find photographs of all the soldiers whose names appear on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. The Wall of Faces can be found at http://vvmf.org/wall-of-faces/
